Oh thank you Mr. Carlin! You are so wise. You tell me that “[people] continue to vote rich co@$ suckers into office that don’t give a fu@# about them. They don’t give a fu#@ about you! They don’t give a fu&$ about you! They don’t care about you at all—at all.”

You must be the opposite of “them.”

Direct quote from this same man, George Carlin:
“I enjoy criticizing on the basis of "It's you folks." Because I never felt a part of this, I never identified with a local group. I never belonged to any club, organization, or state. I love New York City, but that's a chauvinist thing. I suppose it's a belonging thing. I'm not proud of this country, I don't care what happens to it, I honestly don't give a sh*t if it all goes up in flames. Having that freedom just made the writing so much more fun.”

And in 'Life is Worth Losing' he said…

“I look at it this way... For centuries now, man has done everything he can to destroy, defile, and interfere with nature: clear-cutting forests, strip-mining mountains, poisoning the atmosphere, over-fishing the oceans, polluting the rivers and lakes, destroying wetlands and aquifers... so when nature strikes back, and smacks him on the head and kicks him in the nuts, I enjoy that. I have absolutely no sympathy for human beings whatsoever. None. And no matter what kind of problem humans are facing, whether it's natural or man-made, I always hope it gets worse.”

Wait, he didn’t care about the country he lived in (and at one time served in its armed forces [as an “unproductive airman”]) or human kind in general? He must have been pointing out that those “co@$ suckers in office” were rich and the combination of being rich and not caring about the country and its citizens is what was so bad.

He seemed to have plenty of money after acting in 27 shows (14 HBO specials not including individual episodes) and movies, producing and writing over 50 other shows, selling all his production. He had plenty to burn on his self-admitted alcohol and vicodin “dependency” and the accompanying rehab. He chummed around with Joe Pesci and Jerry Hamza.

So thanks Mr. Carlin for criticizing people just like you—rich people who don’t give a f%$@ about us. Thank you for making a career out of pointing out the corruption and flaws in all of our leaders and others in general while containing the very same qualities according to your own self-description. I’m throwing the legitimate counterpart of the hypocrisy flag you claimed to be able to recognize.

Maybe, except the difference is he doesn't legislate his contempt on others, like the ones he is talking about. The problem comes when those given the responsibility of representing the interests of their fellow citizens do the exact opposite, because they make money from it, and because they derive pleasure from the power and control.

I didn't vote for George Carlin, he made his own way in the world. George Carlin didn't take money from me. George didn't put drugs in my water. George didn't make me occupy an independent nation. He didn't vote himself raises while cutting the pay of others. He didn't manipulate the economy. He didn't implement population control programs. He didn't dump radioactive waste in the ocean. He didn't volunteer for the military, he was forced under threat of imprisonment (drafted). George didn't grandstand on national tv saying he was something that he wasn't in order to trick people into giving him power.

Those that allow these things to happen to them, or that allow or cause them to happen to others absolutely deserve the consequences.

You probably didn’t vote for George Carlin for the same reason no one else did—he never ran for any office (to my knowledge or ability to find out). Yet one more similarity between Carlin and the corrupt leaders he criticized in a public forum in exchange for money for—they both talk about problems with no meaningful action or backup. It is a pretty sweet deal to be a paid auto mechanic and only tell people that their broken car isn’t running correctly. What should anyone fix it for right?

Also, Carlin wasn’t putting down corrupt leadership for radioactive waste in water, but being rich and not caring about the people. Actually he had some thoughts on environmentalists…

“Most people are interested in their own personal comfort. I've said that about environmentalists -- I think they care about bike paths and places to park their Volvos, not the planet as an abstraction.” –G. Carlin

So I guess you can’t be against pollution without Carlin putting you down as well. Figures...
