Top Secret America: Expensive, Chaotic and Dangerous
Last July the Washington Post published a three-part story on "the huge security buildup in the United States after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks." This week, the Post published "Monitoring America," the fourth installment of its "Top Secret America" series, describing security efforts at the local level.
After two years of research, hundreds of interviews, and thousands of hours poring over documents, the Washington Post investigation was unable to determine anything for sure — except, of course, that the security system is massive:

After two years of research, hundreds of interviews, and thousands of hours poring over documents, the Washington Post investigation was unable to determine anything for sure — except, of course, that the security system is massive:
The top-secret world the government created in response to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 has become so large, so unwieldy and so secretive that no one knows how much money it costs, how many people it employs, how many programs exist within it or exactly how many agencies do the same work....
After nine years of unprecedented spending and growth, the result is [that] the system put in place to keep the United States safe is so massive that its effectiveness is impossible to determine.

Why plastic bottles read "do not reuse"
TORONTO (CP) - While people may think they're doing a good deed for the environment when they reuse water bottles for anything from orange juice in a bagged lunch to a week's worth of water refills from the office water cooler, researchers say they could be risking their health. Dangerous bacteria and potentially toxic plastic compounds have been found in the types of water bottles typically reused in classrooms and workplaces countrywide.

Tax their land, tax their wage, tax the bed in which they lay.
Tax their tractor, tax their mule, teach them taxes are the rule.
Tax their cow, tax their goat, tax their pants, tax their coat.
Tax their ties, tax their shirts, tax their work tax their dirt.
Tax their chew, tax their smoke, teach them taxes are no joke.
Tax their car, tax their grass, tax the roads they must pass.
Tax their food, tax their drink, tax them if they try to think.
Tax their sodas, tax their beers, if they cry tax their tears.
Tax their bills, tax their gas, tax their notes, tax their cash.
Tax them good, and let them know, that after taxes they have no dough.
If they holler, tax them more, tax them till they’re good and sore.
Tax their coffin, tax their grave, tax the sod in which they lay.
Put these words upon their tomb: “Taxes drove them to their doom!”
And when they’re gone, we won’t relax, we’ll still be after their inheritance tax.

Not one of these taxes existed 92 years ago, and our nation was one of the most prosperous in the world.
We had absolutely no national debt, had a large middle class, and Mom stayed at home to raise the kids. (Thanks, Mike Rivero)

Dear Rachel Maddow (an open letter)
I think that maybe success has spoiled Rachel Maddow. The world must look very pretty from inside your TV studio. From here where I do my own daily radio show I look down on a homeless encampment. 1/3 are veterans. Many are woman and children. The only notice the government gives to them is to make sure the few tourists able to stomach TSA fondling at the airports don’t have to look at them.
I think that maybe your life has become a bit too sheltered, and that before you start condemning other people’s concerns about life in the United States, that you need to get out there into the back roads and take a long walk around the place to see what is really going on and why people are so angry right now.
Because based on your comments last night, you don’t have a clue.

The disgusting media spin on the AZ shootings
A full scale demonization campaign against conservatives, free speech and the Second Amendment on behalf of Democrats and the establishment media in the wake of Saturday’s shootings has sensationally backfired after it emerged that gunman Jared Lee Loughner was a left-wing, pot-smoking liberal who was into dressing like the grim reaper and dabbling in the occult.
How often have you witnessed a “tear partier,” an anti-government activist or a conservative engage in any of the following behaviors, all of which are confirmed to have been conducted by Loughner. (1) (2) (3) (4)
- Burning the American flag
- Being a “left-winger” and a “liberal”
- Smoking pot
- Having long hair
- Dressing up as the grim reaper
- Dabbling in the occult by worshipping a replica of a human skull
- Expressing the desire to be a woman
- Describing Karl Marx’s Communist Manifesto as a favorite book
Speaking to Fox News, the father of the 9-year-old girl killed as a result of Loughner’s rampage commendably labeled the tragic events a “random act” and said that the death of his daughter should not be exploited to revoke freedoms.

US says too much fluoride causing splotchy teeth
ATLANTA – In a remarkable turnabout, federal health officials say many Americans are getting too much fluoride, and it's causing spots on children's teeth and perhaps other, more serious problems.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced plans Friday to lower the recommended level of fluoride in drinking water for the first time in nearly 50 years, based on a fresh review of the science.

This is another example of how nothing is considered "legitimate" unless the government says it is. Anyone speaking out against forced medication via fluoride has been labeled a tin-foil-hat-wearing kook.

The American Dream
This is a great video, but at the same time it's sad that many people are unwilling are uninterested in something as important as where money comes from unless it's explained via cartoons.
Update: The first video had about 150,000 views in 4 or 5 days, then it was removed by the user. The second video I embeded here was also removed a couple of days later. Here it is for the third time...for how long I don't know. I would like to know what's going on.
WikiLeaks: US targets EU over GM crops
